Å for de som ikke gidder lese alt oppsumeres det hele:
It’s excellent as a touring bike but still capable enough in a sporting guise, and dynamically better than a GS in almost every way. It even offers the longest service intervals of any production bike at 10,000 miles for minor ones, 20,000 for major services. It’s slightly cheaper than a GS too.
THE FACTS
Triumph Tiger Explorer
Price/availability: £11,149/now
Power/torque: 135bhp @ 9,000rpm/89lb ft @ 6,400rpm
Top speed: 140mph (electronically restricted)
Fuel tank/range: 4.4 gallons/190 miles (est)
Verdict: The best bike in the class. All it lacks is the kudos and heritage of the R1200GS
Telegraph rating: Five out of five stars
RIVALS
BMW R1200GS, £11,900
Priced above to a similar spec as the Triumph, the GS is significantly costlier yet it offers less performance. But it has the badge and the image and it’s still an excellent and astonishingly versatile motorcycle.
Honda Crosstourer, £11,475
The muscular, creamy V4 is a compelling engine but it’s too thirsty and the bike itself is too heavy. Comfort isn’t as good as the Triumph, the range is poor and extra equipment limited. Should outlast the pyramids, though.
Kawasaki Versys 1000, £9,499
You must make do with chain drive and a mere 1,043cc engine but the Versys is comfortable, fast and effortless, it comes with ABS and the most sophisticated traction control in the class. It’s agile too - and look at the price.
