Well i have been riding the X12 today.
At first i must say i am impressed, i was sceduled at 13,30 but dit not ride before 15.00 because of the guy before me did not come back, we where thinking that he was taking the bike home
The weather was a little rainy and i can say the TC and ABS works perfect. The brakes are good but there is room for improvement. They could have a little more bite to them.
The engine is impressive, lots of torque from way down the rpm's and just keeps pulling. You can feel a little vibrations around 5000 rpm's but this is minor and does not bother at all. The engine feels less sporty than the 1050 in the tiger but it is a different kind of engine. The 1050 rev's quicker but does not have elastic feel as the 1200.
The seat is also very comfortable and it feld like i could sit on in all day. Winshield is a big improvement from the 1050 and does not need a aftermarket in my opinion. Seat was in high position and i am 1.92cm's.
The bike feels (and is) heavier than the 1050 at crawling speed but once on the roll it dissapears completely. The handling of the bike is almost perfect. I think it corneres easier than the 1050 and is very steady in highspeed bends goes easy in short hairpins.
Once out of a hairpin you can thrash the throttle and the TC kickes in and the bike accelerates undisturbed. You hardly feel the TC kicking in and that is a compliment.
Also did a couple of high speed emergency braking riding 140km/h and fully pulled the brakeleaver. The bike starts to wobble a little but as sayed the ABS is superb better than the one from BMW.
The suspention is pretty good but there is also room for improvement, espesially going offroad. But onroad is very nice and gives the bike a comfortable sporty ride. As i sayed a little to stiff for offroading.
The cruise control needs a little getting used to but ones you get the hang of it is a nice feature. If you set the cruise and take your hands of the bars be carefull once you get the grips again. Only a little touch to the grips makes the cruise go off.
Al in all i can say it is a very good bike and i like it. Is it better than a GS? In my opinion and what i want from a bike i can say yes.
Engine is better
Suspention is almost as good
Handling is close
Looks are better
Everybody intiteled to his own opinion but i cant wait to get my bleu one
Questions feel free to ask and i am sorry for my poor english
Hello Hollandhanzie,
We met today, i must have been the guy who wasn't returning The dealer told me, that the next person would arrive at 15:00, so i used the time well.
Your description is pretty accurate (i have about the same experience). 6th gear seems more like an overdrive (than he sixth gear) of the 1050. At higher speeds in sixth gear the 1050 seems quicker, but i am not sure because the 1050 makes more noise and gives more vibrations, so to be sure, we must measure it. I did not experience inbalance (did drive without panniers or tankbag), only some turbulence from the windscreen in the higer position (180 kmh with 4bft wind). In the lower position it is better (drove with touringscreen). I ordered one without the touringscreen and see what happens (i am 1.88).
On the side of the brake, the frontside of my underleg rests against the engine (where you fill with oil) when you brake hard. Is not a problem to me, when you give your foot a slightly other position, than your leg stays free.. When braking hard, the moter dives but also not a big problem (you feel what it is doing).
Overall impression is, that the bike gives you a secure feeling (everything under control) and is an easy companion for long trips. Didn't go offroad. Throtthle (?) respons is very light. It takes some time to get adjusted, but there is no problem. Cardan is grat, didn't notice it, that is good i guess. It is easy to drive with low speeds (with slow traffic etc.), no problem with the throttle here. Only with getting off the throttle, sometimes the bike seems to sprint a little before it is slowing. Guess that is my own fault and takes a bit of practice.
As i said, it seems that the bike is nog going so fast but i guess Hollandhanzie is right, it is an other sort of bike than the tiger 1050. It would not wonder me, that if you would compare both machines, the 1200 is much faster than it feels. The motormagazines wil undoubtly test that.
Also excuses for my English, it's a very lng time ago that i went to skool.
greetings,
EdNeth
i just made my own take a big parking with pavement and make some very sharp corners and then i thrashed the throttle. Works great and gives you the feel............
And yes now i am even more exited, it is a great bike and it suits me perfect. Is the bike perfect...? No, but there is none in the world and there is always room for impovement and those are mostly personal bits.
I tried to look at the bike with a critical eye and found some issues, but i had to look hard
Everyone who has a order placed wont be dissapointed in my opinion and for those who did'nt just take a testride and i am confinced you will love it
As of now i am a happy 'almost' explorer owner
ps. Edned welcome here and i am sorry for lying to you but i had already ordered one months ago. (different motorshop)
