Nordkapp Trip in 2019
Nordkapp Trip in 2019
First of all let me apologize for writing in English.
My name is Nikki and I live in the Netherlands. I am a female English Expat and I’ve been riding bikes since I was 17 years old (now 61). My current bikes are a Suzuki VStrom 650 and a Triumph Bonneville T120. The reason I joined this forum was to let you know about a trip I plan to do in August 2019 to ride to the Nordkapp and back home. The trip is to raise money for Cancer Research. My partner died from this terrible disease in July and I need to do something to help.
I know the trip is quite a way off, but i would love it if you would read and follow my blog and perhaps make a donation. My blog includes the reasons I’m doing this trip, the route, and the bikes I’ve owned in the past. It would also be great to meet some of you nice people along the way.

Re: Nordkapp Trip in 2019
I wish you a warm welcome here on MCsiden.no, dear BonnieCat.
It really hurts me to read about your loss. Life's hard sometimes for sure...
I'm sure you have a lot of good memories from the happy years with your dear Sue and that they will become even stronger on your coming Nordkapp trip.
An ambitious trip, but I'm sure you can handle it.
I wish you good luck and all the best and when it's time I'll cross my fingers for a troublefree trip and the best weather possible for you

Thank you AJ
Re: Nordkapp Trip in 2019
Hi Nikki. You have suffered a terrible loss. The way you propose to handle it, by making this tour to Nordkapp seems to be a really good idea. I have looked at your route and I see that you are planning to stay two nights in Oslo. Send me a pm if you need somewhere to stay. My wife and I are at your age, we're riding Triumphs, 800XRT and Tiger Sport.
If I may come up with a suggestion, you should reconsider your route. To me, it seems you are avoiding the best roads on days 8, 9 and 10. In Norway, RV63 (RV = Riksveg = National Road) Ørnevegen, Geiranger and Trollstigen should not be missed, Further north you should take RV17 all the way up to Bodø and avoid E6.
A small peculiarity: Nordkapp is not the northernmost point in Norway. Kinnarodden is a bit further north, but hard to reach and no roads going there, as far as I know.
Wish you the best.

Re: Nordkapp Trip in 2019
Hi Joachim,
Many thanks for the reply and information. The sights I have on my list are the following. The route on the blog is just for a rough idea. Is there anything else I should see. I will gratefully receive any further help or info on my trip as I want to make sure I see as much of your beautiful country as possible. You are very kind to offer accomodation for me in Oslo even though all hotels have been arranged I would definitely prefer to meet people and hotels can be cancelled.
I also have a Triumph but much prefer the VStrom as it’s more comfortable but the Tigers are really good bikes. Some of my friends on the UK Triumph forum have them and like them a lot. Interesting about the Nordkapp I thought that was the furthest north.
Best wishes
Nikki
These are just some of the highlights in no particular order.
Oslo
Briksdal Glacier
Atlantic Road
Hardanger Fjord
Geiranger Fjord
Trollstigen
Lofoten Islands
Arctic Circle center
Nordkapp
Jonkoping
Malmo
Copenhagen

My advice is to skip the Arctic Circle Center. It’s just a boring tourist trap like all other tourist traps. Crappy souvenirs and nothing to see.
I’d rather take the scenic coastal route (Fv 17).
Fv 78 from Mosjøen to Nesna and follow Fv 17 to Bodø is a much better choice in my humble oppinion.
From Bodø you can go by ferry to Lofoten.
I never apologize.
I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am.

Thanks for the information. I’ll take your advice. I’m going to check the map now. Someone also mentioned that Bergen was worth visiting.KåreDump skrev: 02 jan 2019, 10:01Hi, sorry for your loss!BonnieCat skrev: 28 des 2018, 14:30 i

That coastal road shall be worth "every drop of petrol"! Unfortunately I did not have the time to take that when I visited Bodø/North Norway. If you get the chance I will recommend you see the Aviation Museum in Bodoe (https://luftfartsmuseum.no/en/). Really fascinating if your interests include the civil or military aviation.

I’ll certainly try to fit it in if I have the time. We have a good (similar) museum about 20mins away at Lelystad

Re: Nordkapp Trip in 2019
Fantastic information on that website. I’ve saved it as a Favourite so I can quickly refer to it again. It looks like I need 3 months to see Norway and not just 3 weeks. But i can always come back again.runevo skrev: 02 jan 2019, 19:15 wish you good luck with the planning of an exciting mc tour in 2019. here is a link to a page with national tourist routes in norway.

I may change my plan a little bit. Instead of staying in Ulvik, I’ll ride a bit further to Bergen, as there’s probably more to see there.

Re: Nordkapp Trip in 2019
My hotels are all booked, but if anyone can offer accomodation during my trip, I will donate the money I would’ve spent on the hotel to the Cancer Research Charity.
